I've been thinking of getting a DVD writer but so far I'm torn: I definitely want a DVD recorder to record things off TV and my VHS tapes (i.e. for cartoon archiving/trading and whatnot) but I'd also like one that allows me to record video from my PC too without having to hook up the video card in some way (always a hassle). So basically I need to do some research and figure out how this would be possible.
I don't know if that's an accurate assumption. I can capture 640x480 for 5 minutes in under 128MB on my camera afair. NTSC video is only 525 lines interlaced, so 640x480 should be able to capture broadcast video at full resolution. Maybe I'm misremembering the camera resolution, but I don't think so.
You're only talking about what your (non-professional) handicam can do, then fine...home movies is one thing. But why limit yourself to this and plain ol' vanilla TV broadcast?. What about storing them at DVD-quality (i.e. film quality), what about HDTV? And how do you go from 525 lines to 480 lines and consider that "full resolution" ??? :?: :?
