So it's that time of year and Brewfest is back at Ironforge! This year Blizzard's brought out new trinkets from a boss in Blackrock Depths. I got to 70 by world questing so I totally skipped Blackrock Depths when I should've been there but when I saw the quest rewards I figured it was worth the effort.
First off, how to get there in case you don't want to let on that you've got no clue where the place is. Fly out to Searing Gorge then follow this map. The northernmost point is the gryphon master. Once you get down near the southwest corner you follow the path up into Blackrock mountain and through the cracked open door. Once inside you're going to have to run down the chains over the lava. Yes you can fall off and yes you will die if you do. Once you're down the chain you still have to run around down some stairs, out the other side and down another chain. Then you end up in the quarry and you want to head north to get into the instance.
Or get a summon from the rest of your group. :)
Once inside the instance turn to your right and you'll see 3 Dark Iron Antagonists. The control boxes in front of them give you a shortcut to the Grim Guzzler - a pub in the middle of Blackrock Depths. So just kill those guys, use the machine and you're in. The spot you show up in after the shortcut (really a cute cinematic interlude with one of the mole machines) is a room adjacent to the Grim Guzzler. Coren Direbrew is in the same room as you with some cronies but they're friendly and won't attack - yet. Someone in your party has to go talk to the spy in the bar to finish Save Brewfest!, then they'll get Insult Coren Direbrew. After getting that quest they go back and talk to Coren and the fight is on.
The fight's not that complicated and the advice at Wowhead isn't bad. As soon as it starts the description of the three Dark Iron Dwarves around him changes to Direbrew Minions. This matters to me since those are the first of the adds he brings up and I volunteered to keep them under control. By the third fight I finally made a simple, quick macro just to make it easy to handle targeting. Bring up your macros by typing /m. Click New, type "Target" for the name then click an icon you like, click Okay and you've got a macro. Now for the commands just put in
After you type it in then drag the icon to your toolbar. I put it in the first spot so I could hit 1 then start casting.
Clicking the macro will be the same as typing "/target direbrew" in chat. The effect is that it targets the nearest thing with "direbrew" in the name. It favors names that start with that over names that end with it so it targets Direbrew Minions if there are any then Coren Direbew if there aren't.
If I were smart I could've used
And I would target and start casting immediately after targeting.
Anyhow, during the fight 2 different brewmaidens show up - Ilsa Direbrew when Coren's health is down around 66% and one when his health is down to about 33%. The second one, Ursula Direbrew, will throw a brew at you and you have to drink it within about 8 seconds or you can get hit with a barrel on the head. The barrel stuns you and makes you run around. My PVP trinket didn't remove the effect. To drink the brew after she throws it just click on it - it's an item in your inventory. I heard that if your inventory is full you're immune - I'll try this out next time. After Coren's dead all his adds despawn.
Great Brewfest Kodo is the drop I'm hoping for. The other trinkets and the remote are nice too but so far nothing for me out of five fights. Still, even doing it five times in a row the longest time seemed to be on the trip to get there and it was a nice little outing for some content I missed the first time around.
