Put the ground coffee in the filter.
Put the filter in the coffee maker.
Pour the water in the coffee maker.
Put the mug down next to the coffee maker.
Turn on the coffee maker.
Go take a shower.
See the problem? It became immediately obvious when I came back to the kitchen. I could smell the strong coffee aroma and started anticipating a drink. I quickly realized that the only way I'd get that drink would be to wring it out of a mop. There was a puddle on the counter and on the floor it reached half way across the kitchen. Nothing destroyed, just wet and sporting a new smell. So I clean up the mess. The problem is that my single-cup coffee maker can't just brew another cup right away. I don't know why but I know it doesn't work. Maybe something to do with the temperature sensor when it boils the water.
I'm a coffee enthusiast though. I wouldn't say afficianado because that sounds like too much work. I enjoy coffee, I put the beans in the freezer, I use a grinder. I'm not going to sweat it if I ground the beans today or a couple days ago. I don't feel intimidated when people tell me my freezer isn't the right temperature for keeping coffee beans in.
Being a person who enjoys coffee, I have more than one means of producing the beverage. I'd really like to get a proper espresso machine with all the frothing and whirring attachments. One of those monstrous shiny things that sounds like it has a particle accelerator inside. The real world is not so fabulous for me. I have my cheapy single cup drip coffee maker that let me down today by not sending coffee 6 inches stage left before dripping it down into the cup. I have the standard 12-cup drip coffee maker under the sink for long nights or dinner companions. The latest addition to my collection is a travel coffee press(not exactly this one, but pretty much the same thing).
So a stupid mistake turned in to a chance to try something I've been meaning to do for a while. I boiled some water and let the coffee rest while I had my breakfast. Somehow I think the press could make my mornings faster, but I'm not sure how. That and it sounds cooler than a standard drip coffee. It worked out really well on our camping trip last month, too. Not a bad cup of coffee in the end, but I don't think I'm going to change my daily routine just yet.
Damn you....no coffee going on 18 days now...getting the shakes...
